Move over Tom Brady. Cam Newton was the star of Monday Night Football this week after the Carolina Panthers upset the New England Patriots with a 24-20 win.
Newton completed 19 of 28 passes for 209 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns. He also did not throw any interceptions and gained 62 yards on seven rushes.
Brady, on the other hand, completed 29 of 40 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown.
After the game, Newton gave credit to his opponent and his team for what he says was an “unbelievable night.”
However, the Pats quarterback was angry when a flag thrown on the last play of the game against the Panthers was suddenly picked up.
Brady ran down two officials after a pass interference call was wiped out on a controversial play. Panthers’ safety Robert Lester intercepted Brady’s last pass while linebacker Luke Kuechly held on to New England tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Brady says New England’s fate shouldn’t have rested on that final play.
The Patriots (7-3) get a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday night as they host the Denver Broncos (9-1) at 8:30 and the Panthers (7-3) will take on the Miami Dolphins (5-5) earlier that day at 1 pm.
