Florida Soccer takes SEC Tourney Opener, tops Razorbacks

The University of Florida soccer team received their SEC regular season championship trophy before their first match of the SEC tournament. They played like they earned it Wednesday night, shutting out Arkansas 1-0 and moving on to the conference semi-finals.

Florida played classic coach Becky Burleigh style soccer in their 2013 SEC Tournament debut, beating Arkansas thanks to an opportunistic goal from freshman forward Savannah Jordan.

With 19 minutes left in the first half, Jordan received a pass from Havana Solaun, and the Havana-Savannah connection was ignited. Jordan caught goalkeeper Cameron Carter out of position and chipped her for the eventual game winning goal.

For Florida, they’re now two wins away from the SEC postseason crown. They’ll play #4 seed Ole Miss Friday at 4 for the chance to move to the finals. If Florida wins, they’ll take on the winner of South Carolina and Texas A&M in that final round.

You can hear Friday’s match live on ESPN 850 WRUF starting at 3:50pm.
