Florida Baseball Hosts No. 5 FSU Tonight

The Florida baseball team (8-9) will collide with in-state rival Florida State (15-0) tonight at McKethan Stadium. It will be the first of three regular season games between the Gators and Seminoles.

The Seminoles will be the sixth team from the state the Gators have played so far this season. Florida is 5-5 against in-state opponents having already faced Jacksonville (2-0), Miami (2-1), UCF (1-0), FGCU (0-3), and North Florida (0-1).

The Gators are entering the contest looking to rebound after dropping their weekend series to Indiana. Six of Florida’s eight wins have been come from behind victories including Saturday’s 6-4 win over the Hoosiers. Florida State is undefeated and fresh of a sweep of Boston College. FSU assistant head coach Mike Martin Jr. says they will go with Luke Weaver (2-0, 0.64 ERA) to start on the mound.

The Gators will counter with freshman southpaw Danny Young (0-0, 6.75 ERA).

Tonight’s game will be the 100th meeting in Gainesville between the Sunshine State foes. UF holds the advantage on their home turf going 53-46 (.535) against FSU. The Seminoles hold the edge in the all-time series (123-100-1). Under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan, the Gators are 8-11 against FSU and are 5-0 at McKethan Stadium.

Country 103-7 the Gator has all the action tonight beginning at 6:55pm.
