The Florida women’s basketball team sent senior Jennifer George out on a high note when it defeated Arkansas (17-11, 5-10 SEC) in Thursday night’s regular-season home finale 69-58. The Gators (17-12, 6-9 SEC) were led by George who recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Gator head coach Amanda Butler says her team stayed strong throughout the contest, and she’s proud of the way her lone senior led the charge.
In addition to George, three other Gators scored in double figures. Redshirt sophomore Kayla Lewis recorded 11 points and eight boards while junior guard Jaterra Bonds scored a game-high 18 points. Butler says it gives her team an advantage when her squad has multiple scoring options.
But the win didn’t come easily. George picked up her fourth foul with Florida leading by 15 points and with her out, the Razorbacks came all the way back to tie the game at 55-all. However, George returned, and the Gators ended the game on a 14-3 run to get the victory.
The team will look to continue its success on the road this Sunday as they face South Carolina for the final game of the regular season. UF lost at home to the Gamecocks earlier this season.
