Gators Lacrosse Preview

The No. 3 Florida lacrosse team will look to continue their undefeated season Wednesday afternoon as the Gators host Stony Brook out at the Diz. This is the second meeting between the two teams in the series history, with Florida holding a 1-0 advantage with their 17-4 win at Dizney Stadium last March.

Coming off three road wins, the most recent being a 13-7 rout at High Point, this will be the Gators’ first regular season home match. This year’s team is made up of a core group of seniors, featuring attack Gabi Wiegand who leads with nine points for the Gators so far this season. Senior midfielder Brittany Dashiell has chipped in eight points, and attacker Caroline Chesterman scored three goals in Saturday’s game. Senior goalie Mikey Meagher has started all three games and has recorded 20 saves so far while American Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week senior defender Emily Dohony leads the Gators with seven ground balls.

Stony Brook is coming in at 1-0 after a 20-5 win over Bucknell on Saturday. The Seawolves are led by senior attacker Claire Petersen with a school record 101 points in 2012 on 42 goals and 59 assists. Petersen and junior goalie Frankie Caridi were each named the American East Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week after their performances against Bucknell. Gator Head Coach Amanda O’Leary said that her team will have to be ready for the Seawolves’ zone defense.

Today’s game is set for 3:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
