Must Win Game For Gators Women’s Hoops Tonight

The Gators women’s basketball team will take the court against Ole Miss (7-11, 0-5 SEC) tonight in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.  Florida (13-6, 2-3 SEC) is coming off back to back conference losses including a horrible shooting performance in the South Carolina game this past Sunday where the team shot just 29.8% from the field.  Ole Miss has been struggling as well, losing five straight conference games.

The one bright spot for the Rebels has been their offensive rebounding, a category they dominate in the SEC.  Unfortunately for the Gators, they’ve been having a tough time keeping teams off the glass, giving up 26 offensive boards in the South Carolina game.  The Gators know cleaning up the boards will be a main focus for tonight, and junior center Vicky McIntyre says they’ve been working on it all week in practice.

Another concern for the Gators is the motivation behind the Rebels’ desire to win.  Since they are no longer playing for a conference title, Ole Miss has nothing to lose.  Redshirt freshman guard Carlie Needles says playing against a team who is playing primarily for each other and their pride could be dangerous.

The Gators look to snap their losing streak tonight at 7 p.m.
