Florida Sails Past Savannah State in Gators Holiday Classic

The Florida women’s basketball team defeated Savannah State 88-38 on first day of the Gators Holiday Classic in the Stephen C. O’Connell center. The Gators will advance to the championship Friday night and play Central Michigan. Gators’ Senior Jennifer George contributed 14 points in the win with 11 rebounds and her fourth consecutive double-double. It was also George’s 50th double-figure scoring game as a Gator. Florida Freshman Sydney Moss also had a good night racking up 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The Tigers leading scorer, Junior Guard Ezinne Kalu, entered the game averaging 14.6 points but left the court with an injury just 3:31 into the game and did not return.

Florida Head Coach Amanda Butler says, “Obviously, Savannah State struggled without their leading scorer in, but again I think our team took advantage of our opportunities really well. I hope for her sake that she’s ok. You hate to see anyone go down regardless of whose team they are on.”

Gators Junior Lily Svete also had a big night, scoring a career-high 15 points and hit 5-of-10 behind the arc sinking 3 straight at one point during the game.

The Gators take on Central Michigan Friday night at 7pm.
