Wilbekin OUT as Gators Men’s Basketball Takes On Georgetown Friday

The Florida men’s basketball team opens the regular season this Friday against Georgetown in the Navy/Marine Corps Classic at Mayport.  The game will take place on the deck of the USS Bataan battleship in Jacksonville and the 10th ranked Gators are preparing for the outdoor elements.  Florida senior guard Kenny Boynton says the weather could impact the game.

Since the 3-point shooting could be affected, Gators junior center Patric Young says Florida will look to attack the basket.

Georgetown is coming off a 24-9 record last season.  Despite all the excitement surrounding the game, Young says it will be important for the Gators to keep their focus against the Hoyas.

Starting point guard Scottie Wilbekin will not be playing Friday night, nor traveling with the Gators men’s basketball team for undisclosed reasons.

Florida head coach Billy Donovan says, “how long it lasts, I don’t know. But right now, I felt like he didn’t need to be here or playing this game,” in regards to how long Wilbekin will be suspended from play.

Donovan added how the suspension had nothing to do with an arrest or anything  NCAA related.

If you’re not heading to Jacksonville, you can catch all the action Friday night on Country 103-7 The Gator starting at 8:40pm.
