The 24th ranked Gators football team is now 2-0 on the young season after getting a come from behind 20-17 win over Texas A&M Saturday afternoon in College Station, Texas.
In A&M’s first game as a member of the SEC, it looked like the Aggies would get a win as they completely dominated Florida in the first half; the good news was the Gators only trailed by seven points at halftime.
Caleb Sturgis hit a field goal to start the second half and after Florida scored the go ahead touchdown later, the Gator defense completely shut down the Aggie offensive attack in the second half. Running back Mike Gillislee’s touchdown run gave the Gators a lead they would not give up in the second half.
Quarterback Jeff Driskel, making his first start this season , completed 13 of 16 passes and did not throw an interception although he was sacked eight times in the game.
Florida did have some injuries in the game, most notably linebacker Jelani Jenkins who suffered a thumb injury and his status for next week is uncertain. Also hurt in the game were Gillislee, defensive back Cody Riggs and safety Josh Evans who suffered a shoulder injury.
The Gators hit the road again next week when they travel to face 2-0 Tennessee in what will be the first conference game for the Vols. Coverage on ESPN Radio 850/900 and Country 103-7 The Gator will start with the First And Ten Pregame Show at 3pm.
