Three SEC Teams Will Play In the NIT Tonight

The National Invitational Tournament begins tonight and LSU, Mississippi State, and Tennessee will be representing the South Eastern Conference.

The fourth seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs will play at home against fifth seeded Massachusetts at 7 p.m.  The Bulldogs finished their season 22-11 overall and 8-8 in conference play.  Mississippi State had a tough season and head coach Rick Stansbury says they have no one else to blame but themselves.

The Tennessee Vols, earning the number one seed in their region, will take on the eighth seed Savannah State Tigers at 8 p.m.  The Vols finished the regular season 18-14 and 10-6 in SEC play.  The Vols’ regular season ended Friday, March 9 with a loss to the Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin is looking at the positives of the quick turn around.  

The LSU Tigers, sixth seed in the NIT, will face third seeded Oregon in Eugene starting at 9:30 p.m.  The Tigers finished the regular season 18-14 and 7-9 in conference play.  The Tigers came up short against Kentucky in the SEC Tournament  but LSU head coach Trent Johnson is happy to be in a post season tournament.

Wednesday, two seed Ole Miss will be be in action against Illinois State at 9:30 pm.  The Rebels finished their regular season 20-13 overall and 8-8 in the SEC.
