The NBA has cancelled the first two weeks of the regular season and labor and management are still very far apart as this story leads our Sports News And Notes for Tuesday…
Top negotiators met for hours Monday to try to hammer out an agreement or come closer to one but the two sides still seem to be very far apart on almost all the major issues.
- On Monday Night Football, the Detroit Lions are now 5-0 for the first time since 1956 as they beat the Chicago Bears 24-13 at home. The Bears fall to 2-3. Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes for the Lions.
- TCU has formally announced it will accept an invitation from the Big 12 to join that league, spurning the Big East before it even formally moved into the league. TCU had agreed to move to the Big East but will never play a game in that league as it will move to the Big 12.
- The Big East has given its commissioner the power to seek expansion to as many as 12 teams for football. Some of the schools reportedly under consideration by the conference include UCF, Air Force, Army, and perhaps Temple as well.
- Arizona has fired head football coach Mike Stoops after the Wildcats lost their fifth straight game to previously winless Oregon State this past weekend.
