Gator Men’s Hoops On the Road Again Tonight

The Gator men’s basketball team travels to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs Wednesday night.  This will be Florida’s third game on the road in their last four matchups.  Florida opened SEC play against the Dawgs back on January 9th, winning 77-44.  Georgia head coach Mark Fox talked about some of the issues they faced in that game.

UF enters the contest ranked No. 8 in the nation with a 14-2 record and 4-0 conference record while Georgia has struggled going 7-10 and 1-3 in the SEC.  Florida currently leads the all-time series against Georgia, 107-97. On the road however, UF trails in the series, 36-58.

Under head coach Billy Donovan, Florida is 9-6 against Georgia.  The Gators won 16 of their last 19 meetings with Georgia but the Dawgs have claimed the last four matchups in Athens including last season.  Donovan knows that this second time playing will be different.

UF continues to dominate defensively, holding eight of its opponents under 50 points and 12 under 60.  Teams are scoring around 51 points a game against the Gators, ranking them third in the nation in scoring defense.  Leading Florida in scoring is senior guard Kenny Boynton who averages 13 points a game followed by fellow senior guard Mike Rosario, who’s adding 12 points on 46 percent shooting from the floor.

Georgia’s leading scoring and rebounder is sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who’s averaging 17 points a game, making him also the fourth leading scorer in the SEC. So far in SEC play, sophomore forward Nemanja Djurisic and junior forward Donte’ Williams lead the team in rebounds per game with five.
