Just after his second year, UF football defensive coordinator Geoff Collins will be leaving the University of Florida. After his arrival in 2015, Collins hit the ground running and lead the Gators to the No. 6 defense in the FBS in total yards allowed. In 2015, they ranked eighth nationally.
Collins held the same position at Mississippi State before coming to Florida. There he worked with former Gators offensive coordinator Dan Mullen. Collins should have an easy transition to Temple, considering he coached alongside the former coach Matt Rhule at Western Carolina in the early 2000’s.
This change is leaving Gator fans quite worried. That defense got them a ticket to the SEC championship for the second year in a row. The Gators have to also worry about how many defensive starters they may have to replace. That number could be as high as eight.
Collins is expected to replace Matt Rhule at Temple after the former Owls coach left to become the new coach at Baylor.
