Gators Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff Caps Three-Year Sprint

The Florida men’s basketball team had incredible success with recruiting, player development and team chemistry this year, which combined equaled a national championship. These factors came from the coaching staff that has promoted the team and the mentality of being a Gator.

Florida coach Todd Golden was hired in 2022 after leading the San Francisco University Dons since 2019. The move was drastic for Golden, but it has been his coaching that has led the Gators back to glory.

The coaching staff consists of two associate head coaches, Carlin Hartman and Korey McCray. Hartman was an associate head coach at Columbia University during Golden’s time with the Lions. The pair arrived in Florida at the same time, allowing them to expand on their coaching careers together. Golden brought McCray onto the team for his SEC experience. McCray worked for teams like Mississippi State and LSU before joining the Gators.

Florida’s three assistant coaches are Kevin Hovde, John Andrzejek and Taurean Green. The success these coaches found at the University of Florida skyrocketed their value to teams around the country, leading Hovde and Anrzejek to accept head coaching positions at two universities.

Anrzejek was the first of Florida’s coaches to accept an offer with a new team. For the 2025-26 season, he will be the head coach of Campbell University. He has led the Gators defense since he was hired in 2023. Since then, he has coached Florida in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, including a national title.

Hovde will replace Jim Eagles at Columbia University who has been with the team for nearly a decade. He worked alongside Golden at Columbia for two seasons while he worked as an assistant coach for the Lions. He moved to Florida in 2022 when Golden arrived at the team.

Both coaches signed with their respective universities in March, but they agreed to see the team out through the end of the season. Golden’s entire staff has aided in the creation of this title winning team. With only three seasons under his belt, Golden has notched an SEC Championship and a national title. The Gators will return next season with Golden as head coach with Hartman, McCray and Green by his side.
