No. 2 Florida softball will head to DeLand on Wednesday for a midweek matchup against Stetson University. The Gators are coming off a tough series finale against No. 13 Arkansas that saw a 9-5 Razorbacks win. They’ll look to get back on their feet against the Hatters.
Scouting Stetson
The Hatters currently sit at 20-22 on the season and are coming off a series loss to UNF. They are led by junior outfielder Gia Napoli who is batting .330 so far this year. Stetson had a hot start to the season, going on a 5-0 run before losing to the Gators on Feb. 12.
Stetson is not a team that outwardly jumps off the paper. The Hatters struggle to produce offensively, especially against good pitching. However, they’ve battled in some close games this season, including in a 1-0 loss to No. 16 Georgia. It’ll be interesting to see if the Hatters can keep it close in this one against the Gators.
Last Meeting
The teams last played each other in February in a game that saw Florida come away with an 11-0 run-rule win in five innings. Jocelyn Erickson, Mia Williams and Kenleigh Cahalan all hit home runs in the dominant win.
Keagan Rothrock struck out seven Hatters on her way to a shut out win. It’ll be interesting to see if head coach Tim Walton throws her again against Stetson. Most likely, it’ll be Kara Hammock or Katelynn Oxley starting in the circle.
Where to Watch
First pitch in the in-state matchup will be at 6 p.m. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+. It’ll also be broadcast on ESPN 98.1 FM/850 AM WRUF beginning at 5:45 p.m.
