Florida Men’s Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at NCAA Championships

The University of Florida men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up a strong showing at the 2025 NCAA Division I Championships with a fourth place national finish, scoring 315 points at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.

The Gators secured their second consecutive top five finish and the program’s 29th all-time top five placement. Since head coach Anthony Nesty took over in 2018, Florida has now finished fifth or better five times.

Texas captured the national title with 490 points, followed by California (471), Indiana (459) and Florida (315). Tennessee rounded out the top five with 266.5 points.

Individual Success

Florida earned four national titles during the four-day meet — three individual crowns and one relay. Junior Josh Liendo defended his titles in both the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while junior Julian Smith became the first Gator ever to win the 100 breaststroke. Liendo and Smith also anchored Florida’s 400 medley relay team, which claimed the national championship with an NCAA meet record time of 2:56:10, joined by sophomore Jonny Marshall and freshman Alexander Painter.

Liendo made history in the 100 free, breaking the 40-second barrier with a 39.99, becoming just the third man ever to do so. He also posted a personal best in the 100 fly with a 43.06.

Despite a disqualification in the 200 medley relay earlier in the meet, Florida posted 19 top-16 finishes and 12 new top-10 program times. Marshall set a new school record in the 100 back at 43.22.

Liendo and Smith earned six First-Team All-American honors each. Painter shined in his NCAA debut with four First-Team relay honors and two individual Second-Team nods. On the diving side, Conor Gesing earned All-American honors on the one-meter board, while freshman Jesus Gonzalez competed in all three events, finishing 19th on platform.

The Gators capped the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay, clocking 2:44:02 behind the efforts of Liendo, Smith, Painter and Scotty Buff.
