Gators On TOUR: What Are The Six PGA Players Up To?

Don’t forget about a Gator once they leave the swamp! An array of world-class sports programs at the University of Florida often means an athlete’s career isn’t over when they leave Gainesville.

Men’s golf is no different, with six UF alumni currently touring in the PGA. With the PGA TOUR season in full swing, let’s check in on how these Gators are doing in the pros.

Ricky Castillo

Castillo is one of Florida’s greatest golfers of all time. He holds many records at UF from his four years of play and is currently the program leader in stroke average at 71.15. Atop his list of accolades is a clutch performance in the 2023 NCAA tournament, which earned him and the Gators a national championship title.

After being a Ben Hogan Award finalist and competing in 25 Korn Ferry Tour events, Castillo earned his TOUR card in October of 2024.

Castillo made his first TOUR start in January this year, missing the cut in the Sony Open. He has made four starts since then, making the cut in all. His best tournament was a T15 one-under-par performance in the Farmers Insurance Open in January. It was his first time cracking into the top-25.

Castillo is currently competing in the Puerto Rico Open, his sixth PGA TOUR event. He looks for a rebound after plummeting 21 positions in his final round of the Cognizant Classic last week. Castillo finished T56.

Castillo finished round one of the PR Open 4-under-par on March 6. He sits T30 with three rounds remaining.
