Magic Fall After Raptors’ Buzzer Beater

The Orlando Magic fell on home court for the second game in a row Tuesday night in a crushing 114-113 loss to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors claimed narrow victories in the duo’s back-to-back games, winning 104-102 Sunday in Orlando.

Tuesday’s loss came hours after the news broke that Magic guard Jalen Suggs will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his left knee.

What Went Wrong?

The Magic held their own in the first half, tying 22-22 in the first quarter, then outscoring the Raptors 32-27 in the second. Orlando then hit a third quarter slump, only scoring 19 points to Toronto’s 31. Magic forward Paolo Banchero was on fire in the fourth quarter, scoring 22 points, including a 3-pointer to tie the game.

With only five seconds left, Banchero made two free throws to give Orlando the lead, breaking the 111-111 tie. However, Raptors rookie Ja’Kobe Walter hit a buzzer beater from downtown with 0.5 seconds remaining to win the contest.

Magic Coach Frustrated

After a series of fouls in the third quarter, Orlando coach Jamahl Mosley expressed his frustration with the game’s officials.

“…I don’t understand how a team as such shoots 35 free throws, that apparently the grabbing, the holding up above the lane is okay now, but it’s not once you get downhill,” Mosley said in the postgame press conference.

Sitting at 8th in the Eastern Conference, Orlando (29-34) will aim to earn some more wins before the regular season wraps up in mid-April. Tuesday’s game marks Orlando’s fourth straight loss.

The Magic will fight for a victory on home court when they host the Chicago Bulls Thursday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on Bally Sports Florida.
