Saint Francis suffered a loss Tuesday against visiting Ocala Meadowbrook Academy by a score suited more for football than softball, 28-18. However, it was an impressive performance on both sides and the highs of the game for the Wolves gave much hope for a win in the near future.
The Second Inning
It was an offensive inning for both teams, as Meadowbrook (3-1) scored five runs at the top of the second. To keep the game alive after the shaky start, the Wolves (0-4-1) needed to answer. After a motivational pep talk from coach Ericka Brockish, the Wolves did just that.

After an amazing bottom of the second, Saint Francis manages to get 6 runs all with two outs to tie up the game!

The Seventh Inning
The next few innings brought some lead changes and great plays from both teams. Going into the last inning, Meadowbrook was up 14-13 but the door was still wide open for Saint Francis to take back the lead.
After pitching six straight innings, D’Amore came out and a first-time pitcher was thrown in. The girls proved their ability to adapt and be flexible for their team, but the simple lack of experience led to 13 runs in the top of the seventh for the Mustangs. While the Wolves finished strong with five runs, the gap was just too big to close.

Words From the Team
Tthe words from D’Amore and Brockish were overall positive.
D’Amore said her team “backed me up well, they fought for me and for each other.”
Brockish said there were positive takeaways:
“Overall these girls came out and fought, we had some tough innings, we had our starting and really only pitcher go out today and had a girl who had literally never pitched in a game come in and that just shows that the adversity of this team is so strong. They are fighters and they are coming out and honestly one of these days they are going to get what’s coming for them.”
