Gators Men’s Tennis Suffers Tough Loss To No. 4 Texas

The Florida Gators men’s tennis team was handed its first SEC loss Sunday by No. 4 Texas, 5-2, at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.

Florida is now 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference matches, while Texas improves to 12-2 and 3-0.

Gators Secure Doubles Point

Henry Jefferson-Jeremy Jin started the results on court two, a 6-2 loss to the No. 11 Texas duo of Lucas Brown-Timo Legout.

However, on court three, Kevin Edengren-JanMagnus Johnson secured the first doubles win for Florida, 6-3, by defeating Sebastian Eriksson-Pierre-Yves Bailey. The match was tied at 3-3, but UF was able to gain momentum to roll.

Florida won the doubles point on court one where Adhithya Ganesan-Tanapatt Nirundorn earned the 6-4 win by downing Sebastian Gorzny-Oliver Ojakaar.

Singles Defeat

Niels Villards’ was the first singles match to finish on court six. It was a clean sweep for Texas player Brown, 6-0, 6-0. 

Texas took a 2-1 team lead when Nirundorn fell to Ojakaar on court five. Ojakaar gained a 2-0 lead in both sets, and, Nirundorn was never able to recover to lose 6-2, 6-3.

Johnson fell to Bailey on court three. In the first set, the points went back and forth, but Bailey gained the momentum that led to a 6-3, 6-0 win to put Texas up 3-1.

Ganesan fell short to Legout on court one to hand Texas the win. Ganesan quickly went down 2-0 in the first set en route to a 6-2 loss. He then lost the second set 6-3. 

Although Texas already secured the win, Jefferson defeated Jonah Braswell. Henry had a strong 6-3 finish in the first set. In a close second set, Jefferson had two aces to win the match 6-4. 

On court two, Jin lost 6-3, 0-6, 4-6.
