GHS Quarterback Play
Gainesville deployed two quarterbacks against Eastside: senior Calvin Thomas splitting reps with junior Nelson Tambling.
Thomas completed 5-of-6 passes for 67 yards and an interception and added eight rushing yards to his total.
Tambling was 7of015 for 104 yards and two interceptions and rushed for 12 yards.
Stat Leaders
GHS senior running back Devin Johnson had 72 rushing yards on 16 attempts and 62 receiving yards in leading the team with six targets.
Senior receiver Tony Perryman added 96 receiving yards on five catches for the Hurricanes.
Eastside’s freshman cornerback Malicah Williams snagged one of the team’s three interceptions to increase his total to five on the season.
The Rams outpaced the Hurricanes 240-7 on the ground, led by Corvin Byrd’s 102 yards on 14 attempts.
Coach File
In his three years as Eastside’s coach, Harold “Gator” Hoskins has not allowed a single point against Gainesville.
Two years ago, Gainesville finished its season with a 0-10 record before hiring alum Ian Scott, a former standout for the Florida Gators, as its head coach. The Hurricanes then went 1-9 in 2023, but this season’s 5-5 record reflects growth for the GHS football program.
Playoffs
Eastside (7-3), the region seven seed, plays at two seed Orlando Bishop Moore (8-2) in the first round of the 3A playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
