Raiders Run Through the Jaguars in Del Rio’s Homecoming

A familiar face revisted EverBank Field on Sunday with a history of winning in Duval.

Oakland Raider head coach Jack Del Rio made his homecoming back in Jacksonville for the first time ever as an opposing coach. Del Rio led the Jaguars to the playoffs in both 2005 and 2007.  But in this game, it was his Raiders that came out on top by a 33-16 count.

The Jaguars created plenty of chances inside the redzone to go up early in this football game but costly penalties and turnovers stopped the offense in their tracks. Blake Bortles threw two interceptions on the day and couldn’t will his team into sustaining drives.

Meanwhile, the Oakland offense were firing on all cylinders. Their run game was powered by their playmaker, Latavius Murray. Back from injury after missing two games with turf toe, Murray didn’t pop out tremendously on the stat sheet but he ran for two touchdowns on the day.

Quarterback Derek Carr made aggressive decisions throughout all four quarters, challenging the Jacksonville secondary to stop him. On numerous occasions Carr would roll out of the pocket threatening to run only to connect with a wide reciever down field. Right before the half, Carr found Michael Crabtree for a 56-yard gain.  That play set up Carr’s only touchdown pass of the game as he connected with Crabtree again, this time on a quick two yard slant.

Oakland didn’t waste red zone opportunities. They also scored a touchdown everytime when they were in “goal to go” positions. Place kicker Sebastian Janikowski also kicked four field goals for the Raiders, his longest coming from 52 yards.

The Jaguars (2-4) are back on the road as they travel to Nashville to play the Titans (3-4) for a Thursday night match-up.

The Raiders (5-2) will be playing successive games in the Sunshine State as they go to Tampa to play the Buccaneers (3-3) on Sunday.
