Rangers Clinch ALCS Game 6 Victory Over Astros, 9-2

The Texas Rangers ran away with a 9-2 win over the Astros in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.

With the series tied 3-3, it will go into a deciding Game 7 to determine who advances to the World Series

Game 6 Highlights

Adolis Garcia’s ninth-inning grand slam off a Ryne Stanek fastball put Game 6 out of reach.

With five home runs in the 2023 postseason, Garcia homered in three straight games.

Before a forearm injury kept him on the injured list for over a month, Nathan Eovaldi was a Cy Young contender for Texas. In his final six regular season starts, he posted an ERA of 9.3 and a FIP of 7.88. Eovaldi, however, found something more akin to vintage. With 24 strikeouts against one walk, he entered Game 6 of the World Series with a 2.29 ERA across three starts.

With two on, one out and his team leading 4-2 in the eighth, Jose Leclerc needed to get five outs in Game 6. The lead run was put at first after Leclerc walked Alex Bregman to load the bases. Mauricio Dubon’s lineout and Jon Singleton’s strikeout ended the threat. Leclerc’s night ended up much easier than expected after the Rangers scored five in the following half-inning.

Despite how tight the game was, the final score did not reflect that in the ninth. By the time one out was recorded, it was 5-2 after a walk, a fielding error, a single and a hit by pitch. Garcia then released all frustrations from the previous three games with a grand slam, securing a Game 7 showdown.

Game 7 Preview

Game 7 will begin at 8 p.m. Max Scherzer from the Rangers and Cristian Javier from the Astros are projected to be the starting pitchers for tonight. The winner will advance to the World Series, and the loser will head home for the offseason.
