Around the World of SEC Football: Week 4

In case you made the mistake of not being around a TV on Saturday, here’s a quick recap of games from the SEC.

No. 15 Ole Miss 10, No. 13 Alabama 24

Tide fans, you can can breathe.

Alabama looked like itself this weekend, as the defense shut down the Rebels’ exciting offense. ‘Bama recorded 10 tackles for loss and had an interception, and the offense did enough to pick up the win. The Crimson Tide will play Mississippi State next week, a team they haven’t lost to since 2007.

Lane Kiffin will need to get back to the drawing board fast, as the Rebels have to take on the SEC West favorite LSU Tigers this week.

Arkansas 31, No. 12 LSU 34

Arkansas outplayed LSU in the first half, but its defense couldn’t stop a runny nose in the second half.

Jayden Daniels continued his year five tour de force, throwing for 320 yards and four touchdowns. KJ Jefferson (289 passing yards, three touchdowns) and Luke Hasz (six receptions, 116 yards, two touchdowns) propelled Arkansas up the field all night, but their efforts weren’t enough. LSU got the ball back late and marched down the field to kick a game winner as the clock ticked down.

The Tigers kept their playoff hopes alive with the win and will play Ole Miss away next week.

Auburn 10, Texas A&M 27

The Aggie defense looked like an entirely different group than the one who faced Miami a couple weeks ago.

Edgerrin Cooper and Taurean York led the way for a defense that recorded a whopping seven sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Unfortunately for A&M, the QB position is a question mark right now after starter Connor Weigman left the game with a lower body injury.

If he can’t go next week, you’ll see LSU transfer Max Johnson when the Aggies head to Jerryworld to take on Arkansas. Auburn has to turn around and take on No. 1 Georgia this week. They’ll need to figure something out offensively if they want to score on this Bulldog defense.

Memphis 27, Missouri 34

Missouri might be legitimately very good.

The Tigers are now 4-0 and ranked 23rd. Brady Cook threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns, Luther Burden III reeled in 10 balls for 177 and Cody Schrader scampered for 123 and a touchdown. Combine that with a defense that hasn’t allowed 30 this year, and you’ve got yourself an undefeated ball club.

They head to Nashville next week to take on a 2-3 Vanderbilt team.

How the Rest Fared

South Carolina beat Mississippi State in a battle of SEC mediocrity.

Kentucky took down Vanderbilt to improve to 4-0.

Georgia, Florida and Tennessee all beat group of five teams by multiple scores.
