College Football Week 4: Winners and Losers

Week 4 across the college football plain featured a few nail-biters and eye-opening play, to leave us wondering who is real and who is not.

The rankings were expected to be shaken up this week. Eight games on the slate featured teams that were 3-0 or better.

Colorado Bluffin’?

Colorado and Deion Sanders dropped out of the Top-25 rankings. The change comes after Colorado was stomped by a sound Oregon team spearheaded by Heisman-hopeful Bo Nix.

The Ducks held the Buffaloes to just 21 yards of total offense in the first half. That dominance continued en route to a 42-6 win where the Ducks improved to 4-0 on the season.

Even with the absence of star player Travis Hunter, is Colorado real or bluffing? We’ll see as they turn around to face No. 5 USC this week.

 Ohio State Edges the Irish

One of college football’s classic matchups between longtime foes, the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish came down to the final seconds of the game.

With both teams undefeated they fought back and forth.

In the final moments with Notre Dame up 14-10, the Buckeyes lead a drive into the endzone as the clock expired. The Irish were missing an end-blocker on defense in a personnel miscue that cost them the game.

Overtime Nail-Biter for the Seminoles

After blowing a 21-point lead and barely escaping Boston College 31-29 the previous week, Florida State went into Death Valley on Saturday.

The Seminoles fought from behind until a 56-yard scoop and score from FSU’s Kalen DeLoach evened the score at 24.

In overtime, Florida State’s defense made key stops to snap a seven-game losing streak to the Clemson Tigers and remain undefeated.

The Boot Stays in Baton Rouge

LSU blew the doors off Mississippi State. Arkansas lost to BYU at home last week, but every week is new week.

The Razorbacks got out to a 13-3 lead at one point and fended off LSU for a majority of the game.

The Tigers made sure they got the last laugh. A five minute, 72-yard drive set up a field goal as time expired to secure a 34-31 win.

Top 10 Stays Strong

The rest of the top-10 teams won their games by an average of 27.4 points.

Top dog Georgia is showing no sign of slowing down, handling UAB 49-21. Brock Bowers, one of the nation’s top tight ends, collected nine catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Washington is continuing to build its case for a playoff run with a whopping 59-32 win over California, as Huskies’ quarterback Michael Penix Jr. tossed four touchdowns and 304 yards.

Kirk Herbstreit boasts high hopes for them moving forward into next week.
