Dolphins Prepared to Host Broncos in Home Opener

As Week 3 of the NFL season unfolds, the Miami Dolphins are set to host the Denver Broncos in their first home game of the season.

The Dolphins are off to a strong start with a 2-0 record, leading the AFC East over the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. In contrast, the Broncos are struggling and are currently 0-2 on the season.

The last time these two teams met was on Nov. 22, 2020, when the Broncos secured a 20-13 victory over the Dolphins.

Injuries Shape the Game’s Dynamics

Miami’s Jaylen Waddle is in concussion protocol after a hard hit to the head in Sunday’s win over the New England Patriots. The hit was delivered by Patriots linebacker Marte Mapu, who was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Additionally, Pro Bowl tackle Terron Armstead has not played yet this season as he continues to recover from back, ankle and knee issues from the preseason.

For the Broncos, safety Justin Simmons has been absent from practice following a hip injury sustained late in the first half against the Washington Commanders in Week 2. It remains uncertain whether Simmons will be available to play Sunday.

Sunday’s Showdown

The Dolphins are hoping to continue their hot start. They’re coming off of a 24-17 win against the Patriots and finally return to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Despite Denver’s rough start under new head coach Sean Payton, the Broncos have kept it close. The team has lost their first two games by a combined three points.

Despite the injuries for Miami, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been one of the best under center to start the season. So far, Tagovailoa has 715 yards passing and four passing touchdowns. Additionally, wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been one of the best at his position on the young season, recording three touchdown catches with 255 receiving yards on 16 receptions.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. in Miami Sunday.
