Marlins Aiming to Climb Closer to Wild Card Berth

With 19 games left on the Miami Marlins’ schedule, the Fish are looking to snag a post-season spot. They currently stand 0.5 games out of the last wildcard spot, with a 74-69 record.

Upcoming Opponents

The Marlins just beat the Phillies in a rubber match in Philadelphia on Sunday night and will be traveling to the cheese state to face the Milwaukee Brewers, who currently claim the first-place spot in the NL Central, in a four-game series.

Winning eight out of the last 10 games, the Fish will look to keep that momentum rolling as they will face multiple division opponents. Pitcher Jesus Luzardo explains why believes that when everyone can work together, they can turn into a really great team.

The Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers have won six out of their last 12, and Christian Yelich, left fielder, will look to take down his former team. Yelich spent five years with the Marlins, but the end of his time in Miami was something to forget. The Brewers are three games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, and are looking to finish the season strong.

The Marlins have yet to play the Brewers this year, but they will play each other seven times before the end of the regular season.

The Atlanta Braves

The Braves are the best team remaining on the Marlins schedule and they will begin their first game of the series on Sep. 15. In a three-game series, this will be the toughest remaining tests left on the schedule. The Braves are the first team in MLB to clinch a playoff spot, with a record of 93-49.

The Marlins are currently 19.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East and are looking to stop the juggernaut that is the Braves. The Marlins are 1-9 against the Braves this year.

The New York Mets

The Mets have certainly been on the struggle bus lately but this is not a team the Marlins should overlook. The Fish will start their series against the Mets on Sep. 18, starting the second straight home series. First baseman and former Gators Pete Alonso continues to boost his home run numbers as he has hit four in his last seven games.

The Mets have a record of 65-77 and have officially been ruled out of postseason contention. The Marlins are 2-5 against the Mets this year.

The Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are the last team the Marlins will face before the regular season ends. It will be a tough challenge as the Pirates are still alive in the playoff hunt. The Pirates currently hold a record of 66-77 and are one of the teams that are fighting the Marlins for the last wild card spot.

Also, third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes made it clear today that the MLB should move to robot umpires after his strike call in Sunday’s match against the Braves. The Marlins have a record of 3-1 against the Pirates this season.

The Marlins are in a good spot for playoff contention, they just need to close out the season strong against some teams they have struggled to beat this year.
