Texas A&M Travels to Miami for Week-Two Duel

The 23rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies travel to Miami to take on the Hurricanes on Saturday.

The teams faced off last year in College Station, a game in which the Hurricanes failed to scored a touchdown in a 17-9 loss to the Aggies. Miami’s starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke struggled in the last year’s matchup, completing just 21 of his 41 passes for 217 yards.

Miami vs. Miami

The Hurricanes are coming off of a dominant 38-3 win over Miami (OH).

The RedHawks could not contain the Hurricanes rushing attack. Miami (FL) recorded 250 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The Hurricanes ran by committee, as four different running backs rushed at least eight times.

The Hurricanes were productive in the passing game, as well. Van Dyke was 17/22 with 201 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception. His lone touchdown was a screen pass to Colbie Young that was taken 44-yards for the score.

Miami (OH) was no match for the torrential Hurricane defense. The RedHawks recorded just 215 yards of offense and were just 2/12 on third downs.

Aggies Crush Lobos

Texas A&M is also coming off of a commanding win. Saturday, the Aggies defeated the New Mexico Lobos 52-10.

New Mexico was bombarded by the Aggies’ arial attack. Starting quarterback Conner Weigman was 18/23 with 236 passing yards and five touchdowns thrown. Later in the game, head coach Jimbo Fisher put in backup quarterback Max Johnson who also threw for a touchdown.

The bulk of the Aggies receiving was done by the sophomore duo of Evan Stewart and Noah Thomas. Stewart caught eight passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas made six grabs for 74 yards and three touchdowns.

Texas A&M also rushed for 134 yards, and Le’Veon Moss ran in a two-yard touchdown.

Additionally, the New Mexico offense was held in check by the Aggie defense. The Lobos had just 131 passing yards and 2.8 yards per carry for their 91 rushing yards.

The dominant defensive performance was headlined by cornerback Josh DeBerry. DeBerry had 10 total tackles, a sack and picked off New Mexico quarterback Dylan Hopkins.

Homecoming

The Aggies have multiple players on the roster from Miami and South Florida. One such player, Shemar Stewart, was the top recruit in all of Florida in the 2022 class and is a native of Miramar, Florida.

Fisher spoke about the 6-foot-6 defensive lineman and his development in College Station.

Fisher noted that being back home could be a distraction for some players. Here, he states the importance of staying focused on the game despite being surrounded by friends and family.
