SEC Preview: Gator Volleyball vs. Alabama

After winning their first SEC match of the season against Ole Miss (3-1) Friday night, the now 11-1 Florida Gators will head over to Tuscaloosa to face off against Alabama.

Alabama hasn’t lost a match since the first weekend of September when they faced off against Florida State. The 12-2 Crimson Tide is coming into Sunday afternoon’s game on an eight-match win streak. Their last win came Friday after their five set match against SEC-rival No. 19 Texas A&M (3-2).

The No.6 Gators walk into Tuscaloosa with an 11-match win streak. Florida hasn’t lost a match since their first match of the season against No. 1 Nebraska. With Sunday afternoon’s match against the Crimson Tide, Florida is looking to extend their win streak to 12 and be 2-0 in SEC play.

While the Gators can boast that they hold the No.1 spot in the SEC for kills (14.32/s) and blocks (2.88/s), head coach Mary Wise notes the SEC’s No.1 scorer, Crimson Tide player Krystal Rivers, will be a threat all on her own.

Rivers has a total of 337 points this season, accounting for 6.24 per set. Three Gators players find themselves in the top-10 for points in the SEC alongside Rivers: Carli Snyder (169, 4.33/s), Alex Holston (171, 4.28/s) and Rhamat Alhassan (134.5, 3.96/s).

Both teams take the court Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
