WWE NXT, also known as just NXT, is bringing its action to Gainesville Saturday, April 15 in the MLK Center. Doors open at 6:30 and showtime begins at 7:30 p.m.
General Admission is $10 and Gold Circle, which is ringside, is $20 with fees.
NXT is the WWE’s developmental league for wrestlers to eventually get called up to the main roster each year. The goal for most wrestlers is to move on and graduate to the big leagues of Raw and SmackDown. Although it isn’t a majority, a handful of NXT wrestlers get called up every year, normally following WrestleMania.
The roster for the event is expected to include Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, Indi Hartwell, Roxanne Perez, Grayson Waller and Wes Lee.
Wes Lee
Wes Lee, the defending NXT North American Champion, spoke with Steve Russell on SportScene to talk all about his career and the NXT action Saturday. He will be defending his title in the action taking place Saturday.
It all started when Lee stumbled upon a wrestling school following his deployment in the military. He served six years in the Air Force before he was able to fully commit to wrestling. It took him seven years before he gained the attention of the WWE, when he was contacted in April of 2020.
“Once that happened, I was snagged up and the rest is history.”
He traveled the entire world, with the exception of Australia, to try and make a name for himself and his ability. The North American Championship was his first career singles title.
The Fatal 4-Way
A Fatal 4-Way will come first to determine who Lee faces to defend his title. Four competitors will face off in this for the opportunity to face Lee later in the night for the title. The winner between Lee and the winner of the Fatal 4-Way will become the NXT North American Champion.
The first Fatal 4-Way came via the WWE in 2010, when Jack Swagger, Rey Mysterio, Big Show, and CM Punk competed for the World Heavyweight Championship.
