The Gators Lacrosse team hosted the University of Pennsylvania Quakers this afternoon in a matchup of two top-25 women’s lacrosse teams. Florida won the game 17-13.
First Quarter
It did not take long for Penn to open things up, registering a free position goal to take a 1-0 lead. The Gators quickly answered back with three scores of their own. Emma LoPinto had a strong quarter, scoring once and assisting once. After one more goal for each team, the Gators brought a 4-2 lead into the first break.

Second Quarter
The game continued to be a relatively low-scoring affair. The Quakers opened the second quarter’s scoring with the first two goals, tying the game at four a piece. Maggi Hall put one in for the Gators to regain the lead midway through the quarter. Florida was able to score two more goals in the last minute of the quarter—including LoPinto’s second of the game only 10 seconds before halftime. The Gators took a 7-4 lead into the second break.

Third Quarter
The Gators scored some early goals to stretch their lead to four, including Maggi Hall’s second of the game. The Quakers finished the third quarter with a barrage of goals, scoring five of the final six goals of the period. The teams were tied at 10 goals a piece headed into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Ava Tighe opened things up in the fourth quarter for the Gators, scoring only 51 seconds in. After some back and forth at the beginning of the period, Florida scored three goals in a row to pull away. The Gators scored three of the final four goals of the match to win 17-13.

What’s next for Gators Lacrosse?
The Gators will return to the road next week for a conference matchup versus Temple. Florida will take on the Owls in Philadelphia next Saturday at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ for anyone unable to attend the match in person.
