St. Francis Huge Fourth Inning Comeback

By: Jennifer Blardonis and Andrea Castiblanco

The 5-4 St. Francis Wolves extended their win streak to four games Thursday afternoon against the 1-4 Countryside Minutemen.

Minutemen domination

The Minutemen wasted no time getting on the board early.

Their first two batters scored runs in the top of the first. Though Wolves pitcher Kaylee Lamberson quickly allowed two runs, she regained composure in the second inning. She breezed through a three-up, three-down inning with just three pitches. St. Francis’s defensive play sputtered in the third and fourth innings, and the Minutemen capitalized, extending their lead to 6-0. Countryside held the Wolves scoreless up until the fourth inning.

Wolves Bounce Back

Just when the game seemed out of reach in the bottom of the fourth, the Wolves flipped the switch and turned on their offense.

The Wolves brought home seven runs in the fourth, taking their first lead. They did not take their foot off the gas, extending their lead to 11-6 by the bottom of the sixth. The Wolves finished the game with solid defense, not allowing another run from the Minutemen.

Lamberson pitched the whole game recording three strikeouts.

Season Turn Around

After starting the season 1-4, the Wolves have turned it around with a four-game win streak.

“We feel good,” Head coach McDaniel said, “We aren’t like a lot of programs that play in the fall. We really only get about 2 weeks of practice before the season starts, so it takes us about 5 or 6 games to catch up. I feel like we are catching up and doing what we need to do now, whereas previously, we were shaking off the cobwebs.”

The St. Francis Wolves head to P.K. Yonge Friday looking to hold on to their win streak.

‘I feel pretty good,” McDaniel said, “They are a good team; they are well-coached. I think if we play our game, I like our chances. It will be a good battle.”
