The South Carolina Gamecocks lead the way for the SEC in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, after winning the SEC Tournament on Sunday.
South Carolina Leads the Way
The Gamecocks finished the season undefeated at 32-0 and project to be the top seed in the tournament. South Carolina is looking to become the first repeat champion since UConn in 2015-2016.
Eight SEC teams are in ESPN’s Women’s Bracketology as of March 5. Only seven of those teams, however, are on the bracket.

Expected SEC Representatives in the Women’s Basketball Tournament
In addition to South Carolina, the LSU Tigers are another top team in the tournament. The latest bracketology has LSU as a two seed, after a 28-2 year. The Tigers have been dominant offensively, averaging 84.1 points per game, which is third in the country. Their points differential is second in the nation only to South Carolina.
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers are 23-11 on the season and project to be a five seed. Tennessee beat LSU in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament on Saturday, before losing to South Carolina in the finals on Sunday.
The Ole Miss Rebels, who finished fourth in the SEC, sit as an eight seed. They finished the regular season with a record of 23-8. The bracketology lists Georgia as a nine seed, while it has Alabama as a 10 seed after finishing tied for fifth in the SEC. Alabama slipped to a ten seed after losing four straight games before the tournament. So far, these six teams look to be locks according to the Women’s Bracketology.

SEC Teams on the Bubble
Two teams in the SEC will have to sit and hope to hear their names called on Selection Sunday. According to the latest bracketology, one of the teams sits right on the bracket, while the other team is just left off.
Mississippi State is one of the teams in the Last Four Byes category. They were able to win two of their last three regular season games against Alabama and Arkansas, despite falling to LSU. However, a tough loss to Texas A&M, who finished last in the SEC, puts Mississippi State on the bubble.
On the other hand, the Arkansas Razorbacks find themselves just outside of the 68-team bracket. The Razorbacks lost three of their last four games to Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi State. In the SEC Tournament, they defeated Missouri before losing to South Carolina. They are a First Four Out team in the latest bracketology.
The SEC is expected to be well-represented in the upcoming tournament. The selection show for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament is Sunday at 8 EST.
