Gators Women’s Tennis Opens SEC Play

The No. 24 Gators women’s tennis team is set to begin their SEC play with a challenging matchup against No. 2 ranked Texas A&M. This won’t be the first time the two teams have faced off this season. They previously met during the Kick-Off Weekend tournament in January where the Aggies came out on top. However, the Gators are eager for revenge Friday at 5 p.m. ET at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.

Kick-Off Weekend Tournament Recap

During the Kick-Off Weekend Tournament earlier this season, the Gators showed off their talent by posting a solid 4-2 record. Florida displayed an impressive range of skills and abilities, from powerful serves to precise groundstrokes. The Gators teamwork and communication were on full display.

The Gators begin SEC play against a tough Texas A&M team. Two Gators took down the Aggies in their first matchup and look to do it again. Sara Dahlstrom defeated Aggies then-No. 51 Jaci Goldsmith, while Emily De Oliveira took the victory against No. 105 Jeanette Mireless.

Previous Season

Despite the tough competition, the Gators are eager to prove themselves and have a winning season. Last season, the Gators posted a 10-3 conference record. Florida was one of the last eight teams standing and put up a strong fight during the NCAA tournament last year.

With a strong team of talented players, the Gators will rely on their experience and tenacity to challenge second-ranked Texas A&M team. With top-ranked teams such as Texas A&M and No. 34 LSU, the conference is a challenging environment for any team to play in.
