Rebels Rebuild
Ole Miss fired men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis and announced assistant coach Win Case will serve as the acting head coach for the rest of the season, Friday.
In Case’s first game as head coach Saturday, the Rebels defeated LSU 82-69 behind 23 points from junior forward Jaemyn Brakefield. The Rebels’ win over LSU marked its first win since Feb. 7 against Georgia on the road. Despite a disappointing season, the Rebels may have found a spark with the sudden change at head coach. A win over the Aggies would provide necessary momentum into the conference tournament which the Rebels will have to win for a spot in the NCAA tournament.
No. 24 Texas A&M, led by sophomore guard Wade Taylor IV, looks to bounce back following a 69-62 loss on the road against Mississippi State. After building up a 44-35 second half lead, the Aggies let up a 12-2 run to the Bulldogs and Mississippi State ran away with the game. The defeat snapped a six-game winning streak and was the Aggies’ first loss in February. Texas A&M has already clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, but a win Tuesday would break the program record for conference wins since joining the SEC in 2012. The Aggies last won 13 conference games in 2015-2016 when they finished tied for first in the SEC regular season. That year, they won the SEC Tournament.

Ole Miss is 0-4 against ranked opponents this season, but the team has one last chance to secure a ranked win in front of its home crowd in Oxford. Furthermore, all three of Texas A&M’s losses in conference this season have come on the road against Kentucky, Arkansas and Mississippi State.
