Auburn announced Hugh Freeze as the Tigers next head football coach. Athletic director John Cohen described Freeze as the best fit for the program in regard to SEC experience, student-athlete development, football strategy and recruiting.
Freeze Prior to Auburn
Freeze has been head coach at Liberty for the past four seasons. He took the Flames to an extraordinary level with genius offensive strategies, leading to a record of 34-15 since 2019 and four bowl game appearances. Prior, he led the Ole Miss Rebels from 2012 t0 2016 and posted a 19-18 record in the SEC. Freeze’s finest moments during that period consist of beating Nick Saban’s 2014 and 2015 team, contributing to a winning record during both seasons, and conquering the Rebel’s first Sugar Bowl win since 1970 and finishing top 10 nationally.
Recognition
Freeze acknowledged interim head coach Cadillac Williams for his impact on the program, going 2-2 thus far. Williams, who previously played for Auburn as running back, will remain on the Tigers coaching staff. This will be his fourth year coaching. He previously worked with Gus Malzahn, who is now at UCF, and Bryan Harsin, who was recently let go after the team’s Week 9 loss to Arkansas. Looking ahead, Williams looks forward to the opportunity to pair up with Freeze.

As Auburn’s third head coach in the past four years, Freeze is eager to carry on the Auburn Tiger’s legacy and bring championships back to home. The team has both won and played for a national championship over the past 12 seasons. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and LSU are the only other schools who can make that same statement. Mentionable is Freeze’s daughter Jordan, who went to school at Auburn and now lives in the community. The Freeze’s family War Eagle spirit is sure to be welcomed with open arms into what’s considered the home of the loveliest village on the Plains.
Let’s get to work!!! #WarEagle https://t.co/zDINevmfCf
