Tebow Remains Unsigned By A Big League Team

After Tim Tebow’s workout for several big league teams, he remains unsigned today.

Tebow’s big audition yesterday at Southern Cal’s Dedeaux Field featured batting practice against a pitching machine and live pitching.   He hit several balls over the fence, one that went off a building next door to the facility.  Some of these practice hits went over the scoreboard and into trees, causing an uproar of excitement among several of the 46 scouts in attendance.

Two pitchers with major league experience, David Aardsma and Chad Smith, threw to the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback where he took a series of at-bats with balls and strikes, change ups and breaking balls, where they added a few surprise elements so he would not expect what pitches were coming.

Aardsma says it was noticeable that Tebow was unlike himself and trying hard.

Tebow also showed off his speed in a 6o-yard dash, threw to the bases from the outfield and took fly balls.

Tebow says he is not playing baseball for the attention or money, but he is doing it because it is what he wants to do for himself.

The Heisman Trophy winner has not played baseball regularly since his junior year at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra and he struggled against live pitching and received mixed reviews when it came to his physical tools.

Aardsma says he definitely thinks Tebow will get signed for multiple reasons, but especially because there is no risk.

Some scouts predicted Tebow would get a chance with a big-league organization. The former pro football player was reportedly offered a contract to play winter ball in Venezuela for Aguilas del Zulia, but after Tuesday’s workout and meeting with a few teams, Tebow still awaits firm offers from interested clubs.
