Gators Soccer Changes
Athletic director Scott Stricklin released a statement that Amato was fired due to a “Disconnect between Tony and his athletes.” However, according to the radio station WUFT, he was fired due to a player’s reports that he put pressure on them over their eating habits and bodies.
Due to his termination without the clause, Florida will be responsible for the remaining five years of his contract, which pays him $225,000 yearly.
In the spring, the Gators hired Samantha Bohon, who spent 15 years as the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Embry-Riddle, where she helped the Eagles win conference championships from 2009-2021. She supervised the program’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II.
