Los Angeles Rams

The Ram’s starting quarterback Matthew Stafford recently shared his thoughts on this matchup and the 49er’s strategies. This is what he had to say.

Following their victory against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, the Rams are coming off their first victory over an NFC West opponent. In that game, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 18 of his 25 throws for 249 yards. Stafford’s primary target was wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who finished with four catches for 44 yards and a rushing touchdown. The longest active stretch in the NFL now stands at nine games for Kupp in which he scores a touchdown.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers’ top-notch defense will go up against Stafford’s powerful attack in this game. San Francisco is ranked second overall and first in passing defense.

Moreover, cornerback Charvarius Ward and second-year safety Talanoa Hufanga, have become a more reliable danger in 2022. Hufanga is ranked third in Next Gen Stat’s initial top-ten safeties list. A “heat-seeking missile” with a “blend of speed, football IQ and relentless physicality.” was how the analytics site described the safety’s playing style. Hufanga has already recorded three interceptions, and six passes defended this season, which includes diverting a throw that Tashaun Gipson Sr. intercepted. Hufanga has twice as many run stuffs (six) as any other defensive back, and he has also only allowed one reception for nine yards on six targets. Three weeks into the 2022 season, the 49ers front seven has also been productive, recording 8.0 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, and 20 tackles for loss.
