MLB Post-Season Predictions

American League Playoff Predictions

   Astros

Astros fans have little doubt about their team after winning both the AL West title and the AL’s No. 1 seed. They are the best team in the game. They have clinched their spot in the 2022 playoff season.

   Yankees

With Thursday night’s walk-off win over the Red Sox, the Yankees secured their sixth straight playoff appearance and can clinch the AL East in just about two days. They have clinched their spot going forward and are in a good spot going into the playoffs.

   Guardians

Cleveland Guardians won the AL Central title in 2022 after sweeping the Chicago White Sox. The Cleveland Indians’ dominance of their AL Central rivals late in the season was evident in this series.

   Rays

As the American League Wild Card Series approach, Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Seattle are still in a tight race for position, but all three should feel very confident heading into October. Toronto would be the favorite to win a potential MLB postseason matchup against the Rays.

   Blue Jays

There is a desperate effort on the part of Toronto to clinch a Wild Card spot. The Blue Jays have a few games leads over other teams in the AL. There is a good chance they will win the last Wild Card spot in the American League.

   Mariners

In the unlikely event that the Seattle Mariners collapse, one of the longest playoff droughts in the history of the National League will be ended. The success of young players such as George Kirby, Julio Rodriguez, and Logan Gilbert is due to their performance this season. Seattle will be able to reach the ALDS if Rodriguez returns to the lineup in time with the addition of Robbie Ray and Luis Castillo to the starting rotation.

National League Playoff Predictions

   Dodgers

The Dodgers reached 100 wins faster than any team has in over 20 years. 2020 MVP Freddie Freeman is pushing for a batting title (.329), while Clayton Kershaw has been electric since returning. Outfielder Trayce Thompson has come up big for the Dodgers in the second half of the season, with the team’s second-highest slugging and on-base percentage. Despite only posting a winning record once in his seven-year career, pitcher Tyler Anderson has turned it around. He earned his first All-Star appearance and has a record of 15-3.

   Atlanta Braves

Pitcher Kyler Wright just picked up his 19th win, a figure that put him ahead of all pitchers. He has picked up a win in seven consecutive appearances. Despite being in the midst of a slump, third baseman Austin Riley just hit his 37th home run of the season. This is a career-high for Riley, who hit 33 last year. Despite appearing in the majority of Atlanta’s games, Ronald Acuña Jr has had one of his toughest seasons to date. The former Rookie of the Year has been fighting injury all year. However, Acuña showed flashes of his true potential, collecting a hit in four of the past five games.

   Mets

Monday night was a cause for celebration in New York. The Mets had just clinched their first playoff berth since 2016. Also, Max Scherzer celebrated his 200th career win. Shortstop Francisco Lindor has earned his place in the hearts of Mets fans by not missing a single game this year. The four-time All-Star is hitting .269 and has knocked in 95 RBI. Utility player Jeff Mcneil earned his second All-Star appearance this year. Mcneil has posted a career-high .320 batting average this year.

   Cardinals

Paul Goldschmidt continues to prove that he can still be among the league’s best as the years go by. The 35-year-old first baseman is hitting an average of .320 and knocked in 112 RBI this season. 41-year-old pitcher Adam Wainwright currently leads the team with 11 wins. Despite winning a championship with St. Louis in 2006, he was rehabbing an elbow when they won in 2011.

   Padres

Third baseman Manny Machado leads the Padres in all categories. The Miami-native has stepped up in the absence of Fernando Tatis Jr. Pitcher Yu Darvish has the team’s highest ERA (3.05) and has won his last five starts. With 15 wins this season, he is tied for sixth in the MLB. Despite struggling this season, Juan Soto has recorded six hits in the past four games. 6. Phillies Outfield Kyle Schwarber leads the team in home runs and RBIs. The 29-year-old secured his second All-star appearance this season. Pitcher Zach Wheeler leads the team with 11 wins.
