The University of Florida football team improves to 5-0 on the season after upsetting fourth ranked LSU 14-6 Saturday in Gainesville.
The game was a defensive struggle as Florida managed only 237 yards of offense and LSU had only 200, but the Gators’ run game was the difference as senior tailback Mike Gillislee scored two second half touchdowns on his way to running for 146 yards on a career high 34 carries.
Florida trailed 6-0 at halftime but made a great goal line stand late in the half after a turnover which kept the game close. Then, in the second half, Florida ran the ball downhill and effectively, finishing the day with 70 offensive plays, 58 of which were runs, while wearing out a very talented LSU defense.
Offensively, LSU’s vaunted run game was stifled as it ran for only 42 net yards as the Gator defense bottled up running lanes. Florida also had four sacks in the game.
Florida’s next game is Saturday on the road at Vanderbilt.
