The Santa Fe Saints find themselves in the midst of a tough stretch of games, as they have dropped their last three matches in straight sets. The team lost a second straight game Thursday night against the Polk State Eagles, making it 4-4 on the season. Losing three straight sets was not the only contributor to the Saints’ loss, though.
Polk State Eagles Match
Santa Fe got off to a slow start, losing the first set while appearing to be sloppy and out of sync, although there were some positive moments and exciting plays. Too many mistakes throughout allowed Polk State to run away with the set late and win it 25-15.
In the second set, the Saints appeared to be much more energized, leading a much more competitive and balanced set. Santa Fe gained some momentum, especially on a huge hit by freshman Keionna Mackey giving the Saints an 8-7 lead.
The set continued back and forth until Polk State was able to capitalize on three straight kills, forcing Santa Fe to take a timeout with the score 14-11 Eagles. Unfortunately for the Saints, they were not able to slow the Eagles’ energy and lost the second set 25-19.
The third set was more of the same for the Saints. It started back and forth until Polk State eventually gained the lead and would not relinquish it.
Santa Fe dropped the final set 25-19.

Can they rebound?
Santa Fe’s next match was on Saturday against Hillsborough Community College. Heading into the match, the Hawks were 10-4, coming off a loss to Miami Dade College.
The first set was a nail biter, and the Saints lost 26-24. The Saints were led by freshman Faith Marquis with a team high 14 digs.
The narrow loss took a lot out of the Saints, and HCC was able to dominate the second set 25-13.
The third set was much closer, with Santa Fe only losing 25-20 and dropping its third straight match, bringing its record to 4-5.
Looking Ahead
Santa Fe will be looking to right the ship Thursday against the Eastern Florida State Titans at home. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
