Marco Reus’ season and World Cup hopes, looked over following a poorly timed Florian Flick challenge. The Borrusia Dortmund captain was stretchered off the field in the 32nd minute of Saturday’s Revierderby. Dortmund fans rose to their feet, applauding their captain in a show of support. Reus Injury
Reus is now set to miss 3-4 weeks after injuring his ankle in Saturday’s Revierderby. It is unlikely the attacker misses the World Cup or any significant matches for Borussia Dortmund, though.
Borussia Dortmund fans were put at ease after Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl revealed that Reus only suffered mild ligament damage following the challenge. Initial fears were the German attacker suffered a fractured ankle, but medical tests showed no damage to Reus’s bone. Dortmund’s medical team ultimately diagnosed Reus with a sprained ankle.

This is far from the first time Reus will miss matches. Reus has a long history of injuries. The German is a magnet for leg injuries, including the same ankle he injured on Saturday. He notably missed out on Germany’s Euro 2020 squad after needing time to recover from various ailments.
Looking Forward
Dortmund went on to win the Revierderby 1-0 following a heroic goal from Youssoufa Moukoko. The 17-year-old German headed in a Marius Wolf cross in the 78th minute of Saturday’s match. With his goal, Moukoko became the youngest scorer in Revierderby history.

This was an important win for Dortmund. The Black & Yellow had lost two games in the week leading up to the match: one to 3-0 to RB Leipzig and another 2-1 to Manchester City. The win was crucial to building form and staying competitive in Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund teammates dedicated the win to their captain following the late win.
