The Kansas City Royals duo Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez helped the American League clinch its fourth straight win in the Midsummer Classic Tuesday night as the American League downs the National League 4-2 in the game played in San Diego.
In his All-Star debut Kansas City Royals first baseman Hosmer was named MVP. In the second inning and in his first All-Star at-bat of his life Hosmer hit a homer to left field. It did not stop there; two batters later Perez became the first catcher in Royals history to make an All-Star Game home run trot. An inning later, Hosmer singled in another run.
The win by the American League gives them home field advantage in the World Series as well.
It was the National League that struck first with a first-inning home run from Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs. Bryant credited the home run to his father.
Bryant also became the youngest Cubs player to hit a home run in an All-Star game since 1936. It is the first All Star Game appearance for the Cubs rookie as well.
It was a night to remember for other reasons too; teammates Hosmer and Perez became the first teammates to homer in the same All Star Game since David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez did it in 2004 with the Boston Red Sox. Hosmer and Perez have become faces of this generation of Royals players much the same way as Ortiz and Ramirez did in Boston.
In another nice moment for the Royals franchise, Hosmer hit the first All Star homer for KC since Bo Jackson hit one in 1989.
A night to remember indeed for Royals teammates Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez.
