It is all smiles for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they earned their fourth Stanley Cup Championship title in franchise history. The Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals Sunday night. A power-play goal by Brian Dumoulin started the scoring and continued with Patric Hornqvist adding an empty-netter. Sidney Crosby had two assists, including the pass that set up Kris Letang’s go-ahead goal midway through the second period to end the game.

But this team’s win is more than just a win, it’s about overcoming adversity. The first half of the season started out rough when head coach Mike Johnston was fired, but the Penguins persevered in the second half of the season led by coach Mike Sullivan. Crosby and teammates had to put up a fight, but found a way to make their dreams come true. In the first round, Pittsburg defeated the New York Rangers, then eliminated the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Washington Capitals, and finally finishing off the Eastern Conference finals with a 3-2 series win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After a long seven year wait, Crosby and his team truly appreciate how hard it has been for this team to get back on top and will cherish this win.
