Gators Softball Rolls into Oxford

After dropping three games in a row, No. 9 Gators Softball have won its last two matchups. One of those victories was a 7-4 defeat over the Ole Miss Rebels. The Gators will play two more games in Oxford, Mississippi this weekend before returning to Gainesville. The Gators have won three of the five conference series this season and look to grab their fourth series win of the year in Oxford.

Gators Roll on Thursday

In the first of three games this weekend, the Gators rolled over the Ole Miss Rebels 7-4. By the 5th inning, the Gators had gone up 5-0. Charla Echols, Kendra Falby, and Skylar Wallace all knocked in two-RBI doubles with Wallace making it 7-0 after stealing home on a wild pitch from the Rebels. But the Rebels came storming back in the 6th inning knocking in four runs, one of which was a three-run homerun from Mikayla Allee. But the four-run comeback was not enough for the Rebels to pull out the win in Oxford as Natalie Lugo earned the save for the Gators.

Weekend in Oxford

While almost completely rolling over the Rebels on Thursday, the Gators still have two more games to play in Oxford. The Gators will look back to the big bats that carried them to victory on Thursday. The Gators are currently hold a batting average of .328 as a team. This is the second-highest team batting average in program history since 2010 when the team held a .331 average.

For the Rebels, they enter the weekend losing their last three games. However, their batting should not be taken lightly. They are led at the plate by the consistent bat of senior Tate Whitley who currently holds a .437 average with 59 hits and 37 runs scored.

Catch the Gators vs. Rebels at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15 on SEC Network+.
