Gators Well Represented in SEC Yearly Baseball Awards

It’s Tournament Week in SEC baseball, where teams can make or break their seasons by the way they perform on the field in Hoover, Alabama. It’s also the week the SEC reveals its yearly awards and All-SEC teams.

Gator baseball junior pitcher Logan Shore was named the 2016 SEC Pitcher of the Year. Shore finished the regular season with a 10-0 record with a 2.33 ERA. He was also selected to the All-SEC First Team alongside relief pitcher Shaun Anderson, who finished his 2016 campaign with an earned run average under one with 10 saves.

More Florida players appeared on the All-SEC Second Team. Sophomores catcher Mike Rivera and shortstop Dalton Guthrie, along with junior first baseman Peter Alonso, were selected.  Jonathan India and Deacon Liput made the All-SEC Freshman Team as both players were key contributors over the course of the 2016 season for the Gators.

Last but certainly not least, the All-SEC Defensive Team featured three Gators. Catcher Mike Rivera, shortstop Dalton Guthrie, and center fielder Buddy Reed were rewarded for their defensive efforts this season as the Gators lead the SEC in fielding.

The Gators have Tuesday off and will wait for the winner of the LSU-Tennessee game tonight. It is expected that pitcher AJ Puk with start for the Gators in their SEC Tournament opener on Wednesday. Florida has a combined record of 3-3 against the Volunteers and Tigers.
