The Gators continue to battle for the top spot in SEC softball. They faceoff against Alabama on Saturday at home.
The SEC conference has proven to be extremely competitive, especially regarding softball. Already, six teams are within two wins of each other.
The teams battling for the top spot in the standings are Alabama (31-5, 8-4 SEC), Arkansas (24-7, 6-3 SEC), Kentucky (25-8, 6-3 SEC), Tennessee (25-10, 7-4 SEC), Florida (30-6, 7-5 SEC) and Auburn (29-6, 7-5 SEC).
Florida Gators Softball This Season
So far, the Gators have competed in multiple SEC series, including matchups against Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Auburn.
The Gators clinched their series against Mississippi State during SEC opening weekend. While Florida dropped the second game of the series, it came back strong in the final game, shutting out the Bulldogs 3-0.
Notably, in the final game of the series, Kendra Falby hit an inside-the-park home run. This marked the second of its kind this season.

Shortly after, the Gators performed similarly against Texas A&M. They clinched the series with an 11-3 win, but dropped the second game in a shutout loss.
Then, toward the end of March, Florida dropped two games against Tennessee. The first two games were proven difficult for the Florida as it fell 6-0 and 7-2. But, Florida was able to rebound, nearly evading a sweep with a 4-1 win.
Most recently, the Gators played in a three-game series against Auburn. They started off the series with a 3-1 loss. However, they ended the weekend strong with two hard-fought wins. Currently, the Gators and Tigers share an even 7-5 conference record.
Florida head coach Tim Walton commented on how competitive the SEC has been this season.
Coming Up For the Gators in the SEC
This coming weekend, Florida will faceoff against Alabama in a three-game series at home. The Gators will have a chance to secure a series win against the top team in the conference.

The Gators are strong at home, garnering a 15-4 record. However, the Crimson Tide is equally strong away, holding a 8-2 record. With this in mind, the series will be extremely competitive and tough to clinch.
Looking ahead, Walton said the Gators will continue to work hard in order to climb through the rankings in this extremely competitive league.
