Gator Softball Crushes Stetson 7-0

After a dominating 11-3 win over Texas A&M Sunday, the fifth-ranked Florida Gator softball team (26-3, 4-2 SEC) kept the ball rolling with a 7-0 shutout over Stetson (12-19, 2-1 ASUN) Tuesday. Florida’s Charla Echols and Reagan Walsh each had home runs on the night, and the pitching recorded the team’s 11th shutout of the season.

Gators break out their brooms

Kendra Falby got Florida going in the first inning with a hit, and after stealing a base, she later scored on a sacrifice fly by Skylar Wallace.  That was the only run for the next two innings before the Gators furthered their lead.

Walsh started the fourth inning by hitting a homer to make the score 2-0.  In the fifth, the Gators broke it open.  After tripling to right center, Falby scored on a wild pitch thrown by Stetson’s Lauren Hobbs. Later in the inning, Echols homered to right center where she and Wallace scored. The Gators were up 5-0 with more runs to come.

To close out the night, Florida added two more to its scoring tally in the seventh as Echols singled in a run and Cheyenne Lindsey completed a 3 for 3 night with an RBI hit that scored pinch runner Sarah Longley. The Gator pitching did the rest.

Stats and Upcoming

Florida pitching was lights out on Tuesday. Lexie Delbrey pitched five innings where she had seven strikeouts and allowed just one hit. In the sixth, Natalie Lugo took over and recorded three strikeouts of her own with only one hit allowed as well.

The two teams will match up again Wednesday on Florida’s turf. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
