The No. 1 Florida Gator baseball team will look to extend their 28 game home winning streak this weekend as they welcome No. 10 Mississippi State to McKethan Stadium for a three game series. The Gators are 7-2 in SEC play, while the Bulldogs lead the West with a 6-3 mark.
Junior Logan Shore (5-0, 2.59) takes the mound Friday night and will go up against junior right-hander Dakota Hudson (4-1, 0.92). Florida outfielder Buddy Reed knows Hudson will be a tough matchup for the Gators. Alex Faedo (6-0, 2.53) will oppose Mississippi State junior right-hander Austin Sexton (3-1, 2.98) in game two of the series and Gator junior left-hander AJ Puk (1-2, 3.38) will meet an MSU pitcher to be announced on Sunday. Faedo is making his second consecutive Saturday start.
Florida’s starting pitchers have got it done this year posting a 18-2 record with a 2.67 ERA and 202 strikeouts in 158.2 innings. The bullpen has got it done as well though with 12 saves and a 3.01 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 122.2 innings. The Gators pitching staff currently leads the nation in strikeouts.
Sophomore catcher JJ Schwarz knows that this will be a tough series all around.
First pitch on Friday is set for 5:30 p.m. but you can tune into ESPN Gainesville 95.3 FM at 5:25 p.m. to hear the call with Jeff Cardozza and Steve Russell.
